Gaogouli was a borderland minority natinality regime in the Northeast of China in ancient times. Religious belief accopnied its history process from Han to Tang Dynasty. Generally speaking, its religion had something to do with primitive religion,Buddism andTaoism. Primitive religion was the belief and worship to the gods in the heaven, the locale gods and ghosts that were produced automaticly and on the base of assimilation from the time of this nationality’s coming into being, and they were changing and developing gradually with the changing backgrand of China’s whole sociaty in ancient times. After Buddism came to China in Hang Dynasty, it developed very fast in Wei and Jin Times . It entered Gaogouli during the period of Sixteen Kingdoms in East Jin dynasty and experienced florishing and declining processes.Taoism is the native religion which appeared in China in East Han dynasty, and with development and perfection of Taoism, it also influnced and entered Gaogouli area in the Northeast in the period of the Sixteen Kingdoms in East Jin.Firstly, this paper recounts and discusses the origin and development and changese of Gaogouli’s belief objects in primitive religion, and it also gives detail analises and distinctions of heaven worship, sun and moon worship, stars worship, the god of land and grain worship, the god of river worship, ghost and spirit worship and sorcery worship. It also talk something about how some of these believes had something to do with Taoism and Buddism.Secondly, the paper discusses some matters about Gaogouli’s Buddism spreading time, disseminating routs, developing processs, worship objects and the consideration of Buddist scriptures.Thirdly, this paper analyzes and expounds Taoism’s spreading time, disseminating routs, developing processs, worship objects and relevant scriptures in Gaogouli.Finally, this paper talks about the religions’influences and impacts on Gaogouli sociey’s daily life, politics, culture,and the inside and outside relationships, and it considers that religions are important in Gaogouli’society development and it is an important part that can not be separated from China’s ancient history.
