Research on Global Information View Based Information Sharing in Virtual Organization

In the information age, the organization environment is getting more and more complex, and the competition among organizations is getting aboiler and aboiler, which stimulate the development of virtual organization. The virtual organization can be adapted to the complex environment and the cruel competition, because it has great advantage of cooperation and agility compared with the ordinary organizations, and thus leads the development of organization pattern in the 21st century. The main characteristics of virtual organization, such as dynamism, distribution and cooperation, determine that information sharing is very important for the virtual organization units to make decision and to cooperate with each other effectively and efficiently, and then to assure the virtual organization operating successfully. To achieve high-performance information sharing in the virtual organization, a global information view based approach is advanced in this thesis. In this approach: 1) as the basis, an unified information description model is proposed; 2) an ontology-based global information view and the mapping between the global view and the local views construction and modification method is presented; 3) an information capability based high-performance information sharing method is put forward. This thesis also makes a focus research on the application of the proposed global view based information sharing approach. The primary contributions of this thesis include:With respect to the information characteristics in the virtual organization, the thesis puts forward an unified information description model, named Object Defined Information description Model ("ODIM" for short), to describe information from various sources uniformly and then to construct the local information views. Based on the ODM and ODL proposed by ODMG, ODIM is enhanced with information semantic relation description and information capability modeling. ODIM integrates the formal information description language, the diagrammatized information modeling symbols and the information capability model, among which the information capability modeling is thoroughly discussed. The information capability modeling space is defined and a hierarchical information capability maturity model is presented. ODIM has such characteristics as preciseness, easy to use, generalization and is capable of describing information from various sources uniformly to generate the local information views. In order to construct the global information view and the mapping between the global view and the local views, the author presents an ontology-based approach named hybrid Ontology based global View and Mapping Construction Approach ("OVMCA" forshort), through using which the global view and the mapping between the global view and the local views are constructed and modified. OVMCA firstly discusses how to construct the global ontology, and based on which discusses how to analyze the information semantic relations between the local information classes and their attributes. After that, OVMCA proposes a hybrid-clustering algorithm ("HCA" for short) to cluster the local information classes according to their semantic affinity. Then, OVMCA integrates the local information classes into the global information classes to construct the global information view and the mapping between the global view and the local views. OVMCA also briefly discusses how to modify the global view and the view mapping according to the information sources' change in the virtual organization. To acquire high-performance information sharing according to the global information view and the mapping between the global view and the local views, the author proposes a capability-based information sharing method, named High Performance Information Sharing Method ("HPISM" for short). HPISM integrates the information capability modeling and the Multiple Attributes Decision Making theory (MADM), which includes three phases: primary information sources filtering, sharing information sources selection and query-answering plans creation and selection. Based on the information capability modeling, after the primary information sources filtering HPISM uses TOPSIS and SAW method to select the sharing information sources and the query-answering plan respectively to achieve high-performance information sharing.Taking the joint combat virtual organization in the modern war as application background, this thesis designs a joint combat virtual organization information sharing platform using the global view based information sharing approach. A platform prototype has been constructed and based on which the author makes a deep research on the application of the approaches and methods proposed in this thesis. The results show that methods proposed in this thesis are effective and practically beneficial. The achievements of the thesis have great theoretic and realistic significance in deepening the methodology of information management and sharing in the virtual organization, which promotes the development of information management systems and advances the research on the information management theory.
