A Research into the International Competitiveness of China's Vegetable Industry

China is a big agricultural country. As one of the most important farm produces, vegetable, with a long planting history, has abundant species and varieties. With the reform of farm produces circulate system and the implement of "vegetable skep" project, China's vegetable industry has made great progress since our economic reform. Now, China has become a country with the most aggregate yields of vegetables in the world. While, when it comes to vegetable export quantity, China is the No. 4 country in the world in 2000. After China joined the WTO in 2001, the importance of vegetable industry has become clearer because of its own competitive predominance. On the premise of knowing the international and domestic trade circumstance, China's vegetable industry is studied roundly by the industry international competitiveness theory in this dissertation. Index system is designed in order to estimate the actuality and change stream of China's vegetable industry. Then reasons and influencing factors are explained. After that, some advanced international experience is summed up. At last, directive thought, development stratagem and countermeasures are put forward. It does contribute to the development of China's vegetable industry theoretically and realistically.On the premise of collecting abundant data, the dissertation studies China' s vegetable industry comprehensively, by applying theories, such as International Trade, Trade Economics, Institutions Economics and Vegetable Commodity Economics, and research means, such as integration of quantitative and qualitative analysis, integration of positive and normative studies, abstract analysis, comparative analysis, and so on.The dissertation consists of nine chapters, including the preface. It can be divided into six parts.In the preface, the research question is brought forward; aims and significance are also introduced. After reviewing the development of correlative theories, the research clue, methods, structure and the main creative ideas are introduced.The first and second chapters constitute the first part of the dissertation, namely background introduction. In the former chapter, the regional distribution and produce structure of the global vegetable trade are described; the characteristics of the global vegetable trade development during the latest 40 years are summarized. In the latter chapter, the development situation of China' s vegetable foreign trade is explained from its quantity, market structure, produce structure and characteristics.The third chapter is the theory foundation of the dissertation. After the introduction of the research development of competitiveness, international competitiveness and industry international competitiveness theories, the "Diamonds Framework" created by Porter, M.E is expatiated emphatically.The key part of the dissertation is from the fourth chapter to the sixth chapter, which discusses the actuality, change stream and influencing factors of China' s vegetable industry. In the fourth chapter, China' s vegetable industry is defined as aneconomic concept; then index system is designed in order to estimate the actuality and change stream of China' s vegetable industry. Canonical quantity analysis of the species and varieties of vegetables is done from static state and dynamic angles. The static state analysis tells us whether China' s vegetable industry has the international competitiveness, while the dynamic analysis tells us how the international competitiveness of China' s vegetable industry changes. Conclusions have been concluded at last. In the fifth chapter, using the "Diamonds Framework" for reference, combining the domestic situation, author designs "Six Factors Framework" of China's vegetables industry, and uses it to expound the influence of five factors, including element condition, demand condition, interrelated and sustaining industries, the condition of producers, conveyancers, operators, and the government.
