Study on Exposed-Aggregate Cement Concrete Pavement

Portland cement concrete pavement (PCCP) possesses both advantages, such as high strength, good stability, non-rutting, proper cost, good sight on night riding etc, and disadvantages as low skid-resistance, high noise and severe glare. Therefore research and application of the new-type cement concrete pavement which keeps the advantages and overcomes the defects are significant for providing safe and comfortable traffic conditions. Developed countries have begun the works since the end of last century and the applicable achievement was the exposed-aggregate cement concrete pavement (EACCP). The given documents present the EACCP functional in low noise, high skid resistance and anti-glare, with no details of theoretic results, material specialty, implementing techniques and control indexes published. So it is difficult to guide the new-type concrete pavement in China with such insufficient materials.The systematical research on EACCP of its theory, key construction techniques, accessory material, assessment methods, technical criteria and pavement performance are proceeded in the dissertation by laboratory tests, paving pavement test section and measurement analysis.This paper studied primarily the EACCP mixture ratio design, paving techniques, obligatory accessory material—exposer as well as test methods in construction procedures. Through tests and grey-analysis of all affective factors influencing brushing-washing time the maturity index considering temperature and time was put forward. The "wet-on-wet" double layer paving is brought forward for eminent economic and technical EACCP, and its bending test indicate no impact on pavement strength.The skidding-resistance tests in the article indicate some MTD limitations. The comparison tells that concrete pavement and EACCP under similar MTD have obvious skid-resistance difference and the skid-resistance of EACCP because of its uniformity and isotropy macrostructure is superior to PCCP pavement. Sampling endurance from EACCP composed of various stones presents great difference in attenuation speed.
